Box Score | LOS ANGELES - In a close game from start to finish Friday, the 17th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona baseball team held on for a 6-5 road win at Cal State L.A. to even the series at 1-1.

Broncos' shortstop Matt Muñoz put together an impressive performance at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two runs scored out of the leadoff position. Steven Farnworth recorded a quality start to earn his second win as a Bronco while J.J. Franklin closed the door on his fifth save of 2014.

CPP and the Golden Eagles will conclude their series with a Saturday doubleheader at Scolinos Field. First pitch is at 11 a.m. With Friday's win, the Broncos move back into first place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) standings. CPP is at 9-4 in conference play while L.A. sits at 8-5.

After the Broncos committed four errors in Thursday's series opener, it was L.A.'s turn for defensive woes on Friday. Two of the Golden Eagles' four errors Friday came in the late innings and both led to unearned runs for CPP.

The Broncos' offense didn't need any help in the top of the third, when David Armendariz cleared the bases with a three-run double for the first runs of the contest. Each team responded when the other put together a rally, with CSULA plating its first run in the fourth on a solo shot from Kyle Peralta.

Farnworth retired the first six batters he faced and then he worked out of minor jams the rest of the way. In 5.2 innings of work, he allowed seven hits but no walks. He also struck out three.

Peralta added another solo homerun in the sixth and that marked the final batter of Farnworth's outing. RJ Shanks recorded the final out of that inning to keep the Broncos' 4-3 lead intact.

CPP responded in the top of the seventh with back-to-back singles from Trevor Magno and Muñoz. Later in the frame, Chris Carlson delivered with an RBI ground to push the Broncos' advantage to 5-3.

Once the Golden Eagles closed the gap to one run again, a clutch two-out single in the top of the ninth from senior Joseph Eusebio proved to be the difference-maker. That basehit through the middle of the infield brought in Muñoz and gave CPP the cushion it needed before eventutally securing the 6-5 win.
