WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Justin Ellerbee of the Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team has earned California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Athlete of the Week honors, conference officials announced Monday.
A junior pole vaulter from Rocklin, Ellerbee kept his undefeated streak alive Saturday at the Pomona Pitzer Invite in Claremont. Through his first seven meets of the 2014 season, he's captured seven first-place finishes.
On Saturday, Ellerbee broke his own school record with a height of 16-10.75. That mark is an automatic provisional qualifier to nationals, earning him a spot at the NCAA Division II National Championships to be held May 22 through May 24 in Allendale, Mich.
At last year's D-II nationals, Ellerbee placed 13th overall in the pole vault. He also has excelled in the classroom, receiving 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-District Honors. Next up on Ellerbee's schedule is the Mt. SAC Relays' pole vault competition to be held Friday at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
