WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - For the second-consecutive week, a Cal Poly Pomona pole vaulter has earned the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors, conference officials announced Tuesday.
Junior
Austin Allen received the conference accolade for the week of April 14 through April 20 after his teammate
Justin Ellerbee earned the recognition in the previous week. Both Broncos are ranked within the top five nationally for the pole vault event.
On Friday at Azusa Pacific's Bryan Clay Invitational, Allen vaulted to a height of 16-9.5 to earn an automatic qualifier to nationals. He joins Ellerbee as the two CPP student-athletes already guaranteed a spot at the NCAA Division II National Championships, which will be held May 22 through May 24 in Allendale, Mich.
With the 16-9.5 mark, Allen now ranks second in the CPP record book. The Broncos will return to action this weekend at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla. It'll be CPP's final regular season meet before the CCAA Championships from May 1 through May 3.
