LA JOLLA, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona junior pole vaulter
Justin Ellerbee has competed in six meets this season and he's captured first place each and every time.
His most recent first-place finish came Saturday during day two of the Cal-Nevada Championships hosted by UC San Diego. Ranked second nationally, Ellerbee recording a winning height of 16-4.75 on Saturday as that proved to be one of many highlights for the Broncos.
Also in the pole vault event, Ellerbee's teammate
Austin Allen placed third with a 15-11 height that matches his season best while also serving as a "B" provisional.
In the javelin throw,
David Perez improved on his provisional qualifier Saturday. He recorded a mark of 196-11, which moves him up to No. 3 on the Broncos' all-time leaderboard for that event.
After landing a provisional mark in the long jump Friday, junior
Kaleb Trembly put together a similarly strong performance in the triple jump Saturday. He leapt to a distance of 47-8 to pass the "B" provisional standard of 47-6.76.
Brandon Haugen narrowly missed a provisional mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, recording an eighth-place mark of 9:31.44 that set a new personal best for that event.
After a stellar finish to the Cal-Nevada Championships, the Broncos will return to action next Saturday, April 12, with the Pomona Pitzer Invite in Claremont.
