LOS ANGELES -Â In a last chance opportunity to improve and earn qualifying marks, the Cal Poly Pomona men's 4x100 relay turned in an impressive performance.
The group of
Robert Weathers,
James Weiner,
Louis Martin III and
Austin Braunschweiger raced to a first-place time of 40.91 at the Oxy Invite Saturday in Los Angeles.
That mark ranks fourth all-time in CPP history while being just 0.05 shy of the school record set in 2007. It also moves the Broncos up to No. 16 on the Division II leaderboard. Last year's national meet featured 16 relay teams in the 4x100.
Pole vaulters
Austin Allen and
Justin Ellerbee, CPP's two automatic qualifiers to nationals, performed well Saturday in their final competition before the NCAA D-II National Championships. Allen placed first at Oxy Invite with a mark of 16-6 while Ellerbee followed in second at a height of 16-1.75.
The entrants into the NCAA Division II National Championshpis will be announced on Tuesday morning, May 13. On the men's side, Broncos featured in the top 25 national rankings include Ellerbee (2nd in pole vault), Allen (6th in pole vault), the 4x100 relay (16th) and
Mike Hollis (23rd in decathlon).
