Mike Hollis took a spot on the award podium Friday, highlighting a strong day for Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field at the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships.

Hollis, a junior from Livermore, totaled 6,491 points in the decathlon to place third among CCAA competitors.

His Bronco teammates put together impressive prelim performances Friday, including
James Weiner and
Brian Crane taking first in the 200- and 400-meter events respectively.

Weiner set a personal best in the 100-meter dash at 10.77 while capturing first in the 200-meter race at 21.59. Crane matched his career best in the 400-meter event, crossing the line in 48.68 to take first in that prelim.

Fellow sprinter
Louis Martin III also had a productive day, competing well enough in the 100- and 200-meter races to advance into Saturday's finals for both events. Also moving into Saturday sprint finals are
Austin Braunschweiger and
Robert Weathers in the 200 and
Robertino Salgado in the 400.

A pair of CPP hurdlers also excelled Friday in prelims.
Jacob Cummings recorded a 15.38 mark in the 110-meter hurdles while
Kyle Goodenough raced to a 56.93 time in the 400-meter hurdles. Both Cummings and Goodenough will compete in the Saturday finals for those events.
