Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Broncos Defeat Coyotes Saturday Night, 66-54

POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team put together one of its best shooting performances of the season on Saturday, topping rival Cal State San Bernardino 66-54 to remain in a tie for first place in the conference standings.

The Broncos shot 58.5 percent, their best California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) mark so far in the 2014-15 campaign. Terrence Drisdom led the way, going 10-for-11 from the field for 25 points. He also added seven steals to match his career high.

With the result, CPP improves to 13-4 overall and 9-3 in league play. The Broncos are tied with Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State atop the conference standings.

The CPP defense played tough Saturday as well, limiting the Coyotes to a 33.3-percent effort. Sophomore guard Quentin Taylor put together a strong performance at the free throw line, going 7-for-8 there to collect 12 points to match his season best.

After San Bernardino took a modest 4-0 edge to start the game, the Broncos bounced back with a 19-2 run to take a commanding lead. Taylor knocked down a three-pointer to cap off that early spurt for CPP. The Broncos held a double-digit margin for most of the first half and a Drisdom jumper in the closing moments of the period gave CPP a 38-23 margin heading into intermission.

Three more points for Drisdom to start the second half provided the Broncos with their largest lead of the game - 18. The Coyotes didn't go away quietly though, forcing turnovers to begin trimming the lead. An Everett Turner dunk pulled the difference back to single digits but the closest San Bernardino got was a six-point gap.

Taylor tossed in five free throws in the final 90 seconds to help CPP wrap up the 12-point victory.

The Broncos will return to action Friday as they host Cal State Monterey Bay on "Cancer Awareness Night" at Kellogg Gym. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of the cause.
