POMONA, Calif. – As the Broncos' record-setting 2014-15 year came to a close, 53 Bronco student-athletes moved their tassels from one side of the cap to the other signifying graduation from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
"It is a testament to how hard these student-athletes work," said Assistant Athletic Director
Scott Tsuji. "They are able to take the stresses of the daily grind of being an athlete and add on the work necessary to get a degree and succeed in both. It was a fantastic year for Bronco Athletics in competition and in the classroom."
From the College of Science, 11 Broncos earned their bachelor's degree with 10 student-athletes earning an emphasis in kinesiology and one in biology. There was just one Bronco who earned a degree from both the Collins College of Hospitality Management and
the College of Agriculture. A total of 13 student-athletes graduated from the College of Business. There were 10 Broncos from the College of Letters, Arts, & Social Sciences and in that group was Daniel Garcia Jr., who earned numerous accolades in his senior campaign. He was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year for men's soccer, while also securing three different All-American honors. His season also included an Academic All-American after his stellar 2014 season and academic excellence.
From the College of Engineering, CPP saw nine former Broncos graduate. In the group was Justin Ellerbee, who earned two Academic All-American accolades as well as being named both the CCAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Athlete of the Year.
Six CPP athletes earned a degree from the College of Education & Integrated Studies. In the group was both Terrence Drisdom and Alison Sauve. After helping lead the Broncos to the West Region Tournament in their respective sports, both Drisdom and Sauve earned a spot in the CCAA record books.
Drisdom earned an All-American honor and was named the CCAA Men's Basketball Player of the Year while also splitting the Cal Poly Pomona Male Athlete of the Year with Ellerbee. Sauve earned an All-American accolade as well while earning the title of both the CCAA Defensive Player of the Year and Cal Poly Pomona Female Athlete of the Year.
The final school to graduate Bronco student-athletes was the College of Environmental Design. In that group was Ariel Marsh, who has received a number of accolades throughout her time in Green and Gold. In the 2013-14 season, she earned a Division II All-American nod, a CoSIDA Academic All-District Honor, and a D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award, which she earned in 2011-12, 2012-13, and the 2013-14 year.
She received the Dr. Hal Charnofsky Award from Bronco Athletics each of the last two years and was named the Regenerative Studies Outstanding Student of the Year in 2015. She also earned a similar honor as the Communication Outstanding Student of the Year in 2013.
