POMONA, Calif. - In its second exhibition game, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball topped Chapman 62-49 on Monday night at Kellogg Arena.
Three Broncos scored in double figures, including
Jordan Ogundiran's 14 points,
William Christmas' 12 and
Chris Sullivan's 11. CPP's defense held tough and totaled 13 steals, led by five from Ogundiran.
The Broncos shot 49.1 percent from the field and 83.3 percent at the line. As the catalysts to the offense, Ogundiran and
Daylan Lawrence dished out five assists apiece.
Neither team scored in the first two minutes and 15 seconds, then
Jeremy Dennis dropped in the first basket of the game. It started a 7-0 run for the Broncos before Chapman snapped the spurt. The visiting team kept the margin in single digits until Lawrence knocked down a three-pointer to push the score to 28-16 with 3:18 left in the first half.
At the end of the first 20 minutes, CPP took a 34-21 edge into the break. The two teams played even in the second half, scoring 28 points apiece. Chapman managed to trim the gap down to a seven-point spread with 7:42 to play but the Broncos bounced back with a 6-0 run.
Dennis put down a dunk in the final minute and CPP wrapped up the 62-49 win.
The Broncos will play their season opener on Friday with a 5:30 p.m. matchup against Azusa Pacific. It'll be the start of a two-day CCAA/PacWest Challenge held at UC San Diego in La Jolla.
