POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday as it hosts Cal State San Marcos at 7:30 p.m. at Kellogg Arena.
It marks the start of a three-game homestand for the Broncos, who hold an overall mark of 2-4 while going 0-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). So far this season, San Marcos has tallied a 5-3 overall record and a 1-2 mark in conference play.
In the most recent meeting between the teams, CPP captured a 64-54 win on last season's Senior Night in Pomona.
In this Saturday's matchup, the Broncos will look to limit one of the CCAA's top offenses. The Cougars rank third in scoring average with a 76.4 mark. Ethan Alvano is third individually, averaging 16.7 points per contest. His teammate Joe Boyd is at No. 2 on the rebounding leaderboard.
The CPP lineup features three players scoring in double figures.
Jordan Ogundiran leads the way with 15.2 points per contest while
Jeremy Dennis carries a 12.2 average and
William Christmas has contributed a 10.5 mark.
Although opponents are outshooting the Broncos from three-point range, several CPP players have posted stellar percentages beyond the arc.
Mason Dickerson has knocked down five of his 11 attempts while Ogundiran has posted a 40.6-percent mark.
Sophomore guard
Chris Sullivan, a Gardena native, has been a consistent force on defense for the Broncos. He ranks first on the team in steals with 12 and is tied for first in steals with five.
After focusing on one game this week, CPP will be a bit busier next week. The Broncos will be hosting Cal State East Bay on Dec. 15 and Cal State San Bernardino on Dec. 17.
