Bronco Golf Classic Set for Monday, April 25

POMONA, Calif - The 37th Annual Bronco Golf Classic will be held on Monday, April 25th at the Friendly Hills Country Club in Whittier.

"This long-standing traditional event provides support for our student-athletes and the athletic program at Cal Poly Pomona," said Paul Bubb, director of development for Cal Poly Pomona Intercollegiate Athletics. "Friendly Hills Country Club is a great setting for this event and I encourage all Bronco supporters, university alumni, friends and family to come out, enjoy a great day of golf, and show your support for Cal Poly Pomona."

One of the main focuses of this tournament is to raise funds which are directed into scholarship support for the student-athletes at Cal Poly Pomona. Following a traditional scramble format, the day includes a continental breakfast and putting contest; lunch served on the course following a shotgun start; with dinner, a raffle and both a silent and live auction to conclude the day with the awarding of team and individual prizes. Individual and foursome packages are available.

The Broncos have plenty to be proud of, including five All-American honorees so far in 2015-16: Christian Gonzalez Diaz, Alexander Turkson and Justyn Peeples of men's soccer, along with Mark Huizar and Francisco Gomez of men's cross country. The men's soccer team finished as National Runner-Up in the fall.

Last year, CPP won its first-ever Commissioner's Cup after holding the highest aggregate ranking among California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) institutions. This year, the academic and athletic success has continued. The Fall Quarter featured plenty of academic achievements, including 131 Honor Roll recipients. The news of those academic performances of the Fall Quarter 2015 come on the heels of the Dec. 29 story about 22 Broncos earning California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Fall All-Academic selection.

Men's basketball reached the NCAA Tournament for the fourth-consecutive year and the spring sports are off to a strong start. The Broncos' baseball team leads the CCAA South Division standings and holds a No. 24 ranking in the most recent national poll. Early in the track and field season, CPP has already tallied 12 provisional marks. Within that group, three Broncos rank No. 1 nationally in their events: Lizette Huerta, Mark Huizar and Rodger Mantor.
