CARY, N.C. –
The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team suffered its first loss of the NCAA Division II World Series on Monday, dropping an 11-3 result to No. 1-ranked Millersville.

The defeat moves the Broncos to 41-18 overall and sends them into a Wednesday elimination game against Central Missouri matchup. First pitch for CPP on Wednesday will be at 8 a.m. Pacific (11 a.m. Eastern).

Overall, the Broncos' offense struggled to put together substantial rallies against Millersville starter Jim McDade. The righthander finished with 7.2 innings, allowing five hits and three runs that were all unearned.

Jacob Bernardy reached base in three of his four plate appearances with two hits and a walk. Jared James added two hits, extending his streak of reaching base to 25 games.

In the bottom of the first, the Marauders collected the game's first run with a sacrifice fly by Mitch Stoltzfus and then a double from his brother Dan Stoltzfus pushed the lead to 2-0. A triple from Tyler Orris in the next inning widened the gap to 3-0.

Bernardy produced the Broncos' first hit of the game, lining a single to left with two outs in the top of the 3rd. James followed with an infield single but McDade worked out of the jam.

The Marauders added another run in the bottom of the third, forcing CPP to go to the bullpen with Tyler Rowe. A junior from Rancho Cucamonga, Rowe quieted the Millersville offense with 2.2 scoreless innings and three strikeouts.

Sophomore righthander Peter Beattie picked up where Rowe left off, striking out the first batter he faced in the bottom of the 6th and then fielding a slow grounder successfully for the final out of the frame.

McDade had retired six-straight hitters from the second out in the sixth to the second out in the eighth, when Bernardy ended that streak with a walk. James followed with a single off a 2-2 pitch and then a Millersville error on the next play allowed Bernardy to cross the plate for CPP's first run. A double from Romo brought in two more runs, trimming the Marauders' lead to 6-3 heading into the bottom of the eighth.

The Millersville' offense came alive once again in the bottom of the eighth though, adding five more runs to earn the 11-3 advantage.
