Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Sign Bethell

POMONA, Calif. – Minor League Baseball continues to fill up with Broncos.

Last week, left-handed pitcher Max Bethell added his name to the list of former Cal Poly Pomona student-athletes now in the professional ranks. The Garden Grove native signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Bethell was originally scouted by Marcel Lachemann, the father of former CPP pitching coach Bret Lachemann.

Through his four years as a Bronco, Bethell finished at No. 2 in program history for games started with 50 and No. 3 in wins with 30. He led CPP to the Division II World Series in back-to-back seasons as the Broncos finished third nationally in 2015 and 2016.

During his senior season as a team captain, Bethell tossed 101.2 innings and put together a 10-5 record with a 2.74 earned run average. In the West Regional, he pitched a masterpiece against Cal State Monterey Bay as he totaled 11 strikeouts in eight scoreless innings.

Bethell will be one of 13 Broncos currently playing in the minor leagues. Two of CPP's former student-athletes have reached the AAA level with Travis Taijeron playing for the Las Vegas 51s in the Mets organization and Geoff Broussard competing for the Salt Lake Bees within the Angels' system.

To promote the 2016 Senior Night, Bethell joined his mother Kimberly in acting for a special Broncos' commercial on YouTube
