IRVINE, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team had a difficult start in their first road contests of the season, losing a double header to Concordia-Irvine 5-3 and 5-4 on Saturday afternoon.
Game One:
Starting for the Broncos in game one was
Wyatt Shackleford who pitched three innings, allowing three hits and three earned runs.
Concordia jumped on top in the second inning, scoring three runs before adding two more runs in the third inning.
At the plate for the Broncos,
Chris Stratton led the way going 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Pitching in relief was
Ryan Alsworth who went four innings, giving up three hits with three strikeouts.
Game Two:
The Broncos scored first in game two after a single by
Jason Padlo brought in
Kyle Candalla to take a 1-0 lead.
Jeremy Taylor started the game for CPP, throwing 4 1/3 innings, giving up four hits and three earned runs.
Brennan McKenzie and Padlo each recorded two hits while Candalla finished with two RBIs on the day.
The Broncos scored one run in three straight innings beginning in the third, taking a 4-3 lead heading into the sixth inning. The Eagles recorded the double-header sweep with two RBI singles in the bottom of the sixth.
The Broncos return to Scolinos Field next week as they play the first two games of a three game series against Point Loma starting on Feb. 9.
