CPP Announces Esparza as Assistant AD of Public Relations and Donor Services

POMONA, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Brian Swanson announced the hiring of Steven Esparza as the Assistant Director of Public Relations and Donor Services.

"I'm thrilled to be a part of the Broncos family and I look forward to building on the tremendous amount of success Cal Poly Pomona athletics has already established on both the local and national level," said Esparza.

Esparza comes to CPP after 17 years in communication and media services at the professional level with the Los Angeles Clippers. Beginning in 1999 as the Media Services Assistant, he assisted with facilitating interview requests and pitched story ideas while serving as the team representative at various player appearances. He also wrote and distributed press releases to local and national publications and maintained the team's article and photo archives.

"Steven is a proven professional in our industry. His experience in public relations, marketing, event management and community service will bring a new dimension to our team," said Swanson. "We are fortunate that Steven is joining us and know he will help move our program forward."

In 2003, Esparza began as the Media Services Coordinator for the Clippers. He continued to serve as one of the liaisons between the players and coaches with local and national media outlets while also executing press conferences and serving as the co-editor on all publications.

Most recently, Esparza served as the Assistant Director of Communications, starting in 2010. In this role, he served as editor and production supervisor for the Clippers' game program, was responsible for hiring and supervising gameday statistical crews and composed a majority of the department's official press releases. He also provided analytical and statistical information to traveling media and television crews.

Esparza graduated from the University of Michigan in 1998 where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Arts in Communications.
