Men's Basketball Remains in First-Place with Win Over Dominguez Hills

POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team held on to a victory against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday night, defeating the Toros 65-58 to hold on to first-place in the conference standings.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
-    Quentin Taylor started things off for the Broncos, opening the game with a three-pointer for the first score of the night.
-    The game went back and forth throughout the first half before the Broncos made their first breakaway, taking a seven-point lead, 34-27, into the halftime break.
-    The Broncos outshot CSUDH, earning a shooting percentage of 44 percent while holding the Toros to a mark of 34 percent.
-    Dominguez Hills won the battle down low, tallying 40 rebounds to 31 for the Broncos while CPP registered 18 points off of Toro mistakes.
-    In the second half, the Broncos took their largest lead at 14 points with just under fifteen minutes to play in the game.
-    The Toros climbed back to within four points of the Broncos but couldn't overcome the deficit as the Broncos nailed three of their four free throws down the stretch.

KEY PERFORMERS: 
-    Taylor finished the night with a team-high 15 points, shooting 6-of-9 from the field.
-    William Christmas earned himself a double-double as he tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds.
-    Also earning 13 points was Jordan Ogundiran who added five assists while Jeff Nibo added seven points. 

OUTSIDE THE BOX: 
-    With their 13th win tonight, the Broncos have already surpassed their win total from the 2016-17 season where they finished 12-13 overall.
-    CPP earned the season sweep of CSUDH after earning a road victory earlier in the year.
-    The Broncos remain perfect in conference games at home as they improve to 5-0.

The Broncos remain at Kellogg Arena on Saturday, Jan. 20 as they welcome in Cal State Los Angeles for the first time this season.
