CARSON, Calif. -- Despite holding a 32-6 shot advantage, the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team wrapped up the 2018 season with a 0-0 tie at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday at Toro Stadium in Carson.
The Broncos finish with a 5-9-4 overall record and a 1-7-4 mark in the CCAA. The Toros ended at 3-10-4 (2-7-3 CCAA).
The 32 shots taken by CPP, 16 of which were on goal, were both season-highs as seven of them came off the foot of
Ambria Pogue.
Sommer Larrabee took four shots while
Allyssa Larkin and
Ally LaCarra-Platt fired three apiece. It forced CSUDH goalkeeper Ruth-Maria Soto to make a career-high 16 saves.
Cal Poly Pomona saw themselves with plenty of scoring opportunities. The first came at 6:28 when a free kick was served deep into CSUDH territory from midfield only to find
Amanda Duran there to make a header attempt, but Soto came flying out of nowhere to make the save. Another shot at 13:41 by
Taylor Rasmussen went upper left corner, but again, Soto was there for the stop.
A total of 11 shots came off CPP feet in the first half, followed by 15 more in the second half. The Broncos also had a 6-2 lead in shots throughout the 20 minute overtime period, but none would find netting.
Sydney Williams and
Clarissa Sanchez combined on CPP's sixth shutout of the season.
