Last Week: The Broncos (18-5, 15-4 CCAA) split the series against Cal State San Marcos and won against U.C. San Diego last week. The Broncos needed to come out of the week with at least 2 wins and did so by beating the Cougars 69-63 on the road and the Tritons 80-69.
Jordan Ogundiran and
Quentin Taylor both ended with 18 points against the Tritons. Taylor also dropped 16 points in their win against the Cougars.
By the Numbers: If the Broncos win both of their games this week, they would need San Marcos to lose one game to clinch the regular season title and secure the first seed in the CCAA tournament. The Broncos won the head to head vs Chico State and San Diego giving them the tie breaker if any of these teams shared the same conference record. The Broncos control their own destiny headed into the final stretch of the regular season.
The Broncos are the number one scoring defense in the conference, holding teams to an average of 62 points a game. Teams are shooting 38 percent from the floor and 30 percent from beyond the arc. Ogundiran leads the team in scoring and assists, averaging 14.2 points per game and 4.2 assists per a game which ranks him seventh and fourth respectively in the CCAA. Previously, Pomona beat Sonoma on the road 58-48 thanks to a 17-point performance by Ogundiran, and In the last meeting against the Gators, the Broncos won 78-68 backed by a 6-6 shooting night by Taylor.
Seawolves Report: Sonoma (9-13, 7-11 CCAA) is coming in on a five-game losing streak. They struggled all season and it seems like their struggles will continue. They are last in the CCAA in points per game, averaging 69. Opposing offenses are shooting 45 percent from the field against them. They struggle defending the paint and most teams take advantage. Armani Nicolis leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.5 points a game.
Gator Report: San Francisco (15-9, 11-7 CCAA) is looking to host a home game in the first round of the tournament but will need to win-out to do so. The Gators are currently fifth in the CCAA and are two games back of the three teams tied for second. They are the second highest scoring offense in the conference, averaging almost 78 points a game. They are the most efficient team as they shoot almost 48 percent from the floor. Look for the Gators to pound you in the paint with forward Brantley Bynum as he is third in the CCAA in scoring with 15.8 points a game.
