Broncos Split with UC Colorado Springs, Fall in Game Four 8-3

POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team finished with a series split against UC Colorado Springs, losing game four 8-3 on Sunday afternoon at Scolinos Field.


THE BASICS:
Final: Game One: UC – Colorado Springs 8, Cal Poly Pomona 3
Records: UCCS (2-2, 0-0 RMAC), CPP (2-2, 0-0 CCAA)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
-    Colorado Springs didn't take long to score, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning before adding four more runs in the second inning and one in the third to go again 6-0.
-    The Broncos were held scoreless for five innings as Cody Martin singled through the left side to score Nick Peifer and give the CPP their first score.
-    CPP added another run in the seventh and again in the eighth but couldn't string together enough hits to surpass UCCS's early lead.
-    The Mountain Lions finished with 14 total hits while the Broncos ended with seven.

KEY PERFORMERS: 
-    Brian Conley tossed five innings of relief for the Broncos, totaling seven strikeouts while allowing six hits and two earned runs in the process.
-    At the Plate, Patrick Vizcaino led the Broncos with two hits and one RBI while Martin and Brennan McKenzie each tallied an RBI of their own.
-    Jeremy Taylor took the loss for CPP, throwing 2.2 innings with eight hits.
-    Ben Mora made his debut for the Broncos, throwing 1.1 innings with two strikeouts.


OUTSIDE THE BOX: 
-    The Broncos and Mountain Lions split their series with the CPP winning the first two games and UCCS taking the final two.
-    CPP now holds a record of 4-3 overall against Colorado Springs.

COMING UP NEXT:
The Broncos will host an exhibition game against the University of British Columbia on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
