POMONA -- The Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team surrendered a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes of action and was unable to rebound from the deficit, falling 3-0 to visiting Simon Fraser in a battle of the nationally-ranked Sunday night at Kellogg Stadium in Pomona. The fourth-ranked Broncos fall to 1-1 on the year while the 20th-ranked Clan improve to 2-0.
The first Simon Fraser goal came on a corner kick in the 8th minute by Matteo Polisi that found the head of the six-foot-two Quinn Dawson right in the middle of the box to redirect the serve into the back of the net.
Less than three minutes later, Polisi broke away from the CPP defense at midfield and fired a 20-yard rocket that Broncos netminder
Jakob Hansen punched away, but right at SFU's Mamadi Camara, who attempted a one-timer that was saved by Hansen at point-blank range, but that shot also ricocheted off Hansen and directly back to Polisi, who finished for the second goal of the evening for the Clan.
Both teams settled in from that point on, but in the 64th minute, Simon Fraser's Camara headed in another corner kick off the foot of Polisi to give the visitors a comfortable 3-0 lead, and the eventual victory.
Both Hansen and SFU keeper Luciano Trasolini made four saves on the night. CPP's
Patricio Yrizar tallied a team-high three shots in the loss.
Cal Poly Pomona will return to action Tuesday at Fresno Pacific. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
