POMONA -- Cal Poly Pomona acting head volleyball coach
Traci Dahl announced Thursday the signing of Jazminn Parrish to a National Letter of Intent to join the Broncos in the fall for the 2019 season.
"We couldn't be more excited that Jazminn has chosen to be a Bronco," said Dahl. "When recruiting, it is very important to find kids that will help build on the Bronco culture that we have in place."
Parrish, who will graduate in the spring from Gahr High School in Cerritos, Calif., has been a two-sport standout for the Gladiators, excelling in both volleyball and track and field. On the volleyball court, she was named the San Gabriel Valley League Most Valuable Player as a sophomore in 2016 after leading Gahr to the league championship for the first time since 1999. Parrish, an outside hitter, was also selected to the
Press Telegram Volleyball Dream Team that season.
"She is a very physical player who hits the ball very hard, and from a high point, and has the capability to score for us in both the front row and the back row," Dahl added. "Losing two senior outside hitters gives Jazminn the opportunity to be an impact player very early in her career."
As a sprinter for the Gahr track and field team, Parrish broke the 400m record in 8th grade, held First Place league titles in the 100m, 200m and 400m races since her freshman campaign, and consistently made it to the CIF Prelims as a Varsity student-athlete. Not only does Parrish shine in competition, but she also excels in the classroom, receiving the "Scholar Athlete" honor as well as being on Honor Roll recognition for her academic achievement throughout her high school career.
"Jazminn is a person of very high character and comes from a great family," said Dahl. "We have had the chance to get to know her personally and she was present at most of our matches last year, so she knows exactly what to expect. She is already fully invested in our Bronco volleyball family and we ready for her to join the team."
