LOS ANGELES -- Trailing by 16 points with 18-25 remaining in regulation, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team went on a tear, scoring 38 of the next 49 points in the contest in a span of 13 minutes en route to a come-from-behind 80-69 victory over Cal State L.A. on Saturday afternoon at University Gym in Los Angeles.
The Broncos rise to 8-5 overall and 6-5 in the CCAA. The Golden Eagles fall to 10-8 (6-6 CCAA).
William Christmas, the CCAA's scoring leader this season, scored a game-high 25 points, 18 of which came in the second half.
Chris Sullivan chipped in with a season-high 13 points off the bench.
Though CPP trailed by 11 points at halftime, the Broncos still outshot the Golden Eagles by two percentage points (48 percent to 46 percent), but CSULA owned the turnover battle, forcing 13 while giving up the ball just six times in the opening half, outscoring CPP 21-4 in points off turnovers. The tables turned in the second half as the numbers were nearly identical, but the other way around.
In the end, the Broncos shot 54.4 percent on 31 of 57 while the Golden Eagles were 41.2 percent from the floor on 21 of 51, which included 10 three-pointers.
