POMONA -- Despite holding a significant 23-4 shot advantage in the contest, including a 12-1 margin in the second half, the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team saw its season come to an abrupt halt with a stunning 1-0 loss to visiting Cal State San Bernardino in the Second Round of the 2019 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship Tournament on Saturday night at Kellogg Stadium in Pomona.
The No. 4 seeded Broncos end their season at 12-5-3. The No. 5 seed Coyotes advance to the Third Round against No. 8 seed Colorado School of Mines in two weeks in Los Angeles. In the other Super Region 4 semifinal slated for the weekend after Thanksgiving, No. 2 seed Cal State LA will host No. 3 seed St. Mary's (Texas).

Matt O'Sullivan and seniors
Ori Kenett and
Jason Ramos had to say about Saturday's upset loss.
The first and only goal of the contest came just 6:54 after kickoff following a CSUSB set piece. Francisco Sierra served the ball into Isaac Balderrama at the near post, who then headed it up to Brandon Sangbarani in the goal box as he headed it into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. The Coyotes would only take two more shot attempts the rest of the way, a span of 83 minutes. During that time, the Broncos unleashed 23 shots at CSUSB goalkeeper Jacob Huber, who came up big with 10 saves to record the improbable shutout.
The Broncos saw many chances that missed the frame by mere inches. It was only the second time in 20 matches this season that Cal Poly Pomona was shut out.
