POMONA – After almost two weeks off, Cal Poly Pomona returns to action this week, hosting two tough opponents to close out the 2019 calendar year.

The Broncos (6-4, 2-2 CCAA) take on No. 24-ranked Cal State San Marcos on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and No. 22-ranked UC San Diego on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.  All of the action inside Kellogg Arena can be watched for free on the CCAA Network, either online at ccaanetwork.com, or by downloading the channel on Android, Roku, Apple TV or Amazon Fire TV.

CPP looks to break a two-game losing streak and move up in the CCAA standings. The Broncos currently sit in eighth place, but have plenty of games left to make their move. The Cougars sit in third with a 3-1 conference record, while the Tritons are currently in fifth at 2-1 in the CCAA.

Kasey Smit leads the Broncos with 14.9 points and 9.1 rebounds per game averages. The senior forward tops the CCAA and sits 30th in NCAA Division II with 7.2 defensive rebounds per game to help CPP be a solid threat off the boards. CPP averages 41.0 rebounds per game, which is the second-best in the CCAA and sits in the top-70 of DII.

The Broncos boast a 5-2 all-time record against CSUSM, which is receiving votes in the latest WBCA poll after conceding just one loss in its first nine games – the best start in program history. The Cougars (8-1) come off a 69-63 victory in non-conference action against Concordia University of Irvine on Saturday.

UCSD – which boasts the fourth-lowest turnovers per game average in NCAA Division II (11.0) – holds the all-time series at 22-17 and boasts a 6-2 overall record. The Tritons take on Cal State Dominguez Hills Tuesday night and Sonoma State Thursday before heading to Kellogg Arena on Sunday.

This week's home games will wrap up the 2019 calendar year for Cal Poly Pomona. The Broncos will kick off 2020 up in the Bay Area at Sonoma State on Thursday, Jan. 2, at 5:30 p.m., and at San Francisco State on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 1 p.m.
