POMONA -- Cal Poly Pomona head women's basketball coach Danelle Bishop has announced the addition of Cheyenne McKinnie to the program for 2019-20. McKinnie is a transfer from Los Angeles Trade Tech JC where she led the Lady Beavers to back-to-back South Coast Conference championships as the leading scorer in the SCC.
"Cheyenne is a quick and athletic shooting guard," Bishop said. "She will help open the floor for us with her outside shooting presence. Cheyenne can also defend well. She is a great person and is the type of fit we want for our program. We look forward to her joining our Bronco Family."
A Second Team All-State selection this past season, she averaged 21.5 points a contest. McKinnie was also named the SCC Freshman of the Year after her rookie campaign in 2017-18. As a senior at Valley Christian HS in Cerritos in 2016-17, she was voted as the Olympic League MVP, selected to the Long Beach Press Telegram First Team, and led the Defenders to a Division 4AA CIF Championship that season.
"I want to be a part of a program where I can make a difference and where I'm wanted," said McKinnie. "The coaching staff and girls are very welcoming, it feels like home!"
McKinnie is the first signee to be announced by the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball program ahead of the 2019-20 season.
