INDIANAPOLIS --
Eight Cal Poly Pomona track and field student-athletes have been selected to compete at the 2019 NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships on May 23-25 at Javelina Stadium in Kingsville, Texas.

On the men's side, Ruben Dominguez (5000 Meters), Kaelin Moore (400 Meter Hurdles), Ryan Fields (400 Meter Hurdles) and Kyle Lawson (Decathlon) will continue their seasons in Texas.

On the women's side, Ayana Fields (200 Meters), Casey Monoszlay (1500 Meters and 5000 Meters), Nia Vance (100 Meter Hurdles) and Ana Tovi (Discus) will also head to Texas to extend their seasons.

It is the most from Cal Poly Pomona to compete at Nationals since eight Broncos took part in the 2015 NCAA Championships.

MEN

Both Dominguez and Moore will be making their second trip to Nationals in their collegiate careers while Fields and Lawson will be competing at Nationals for the first time.

Senior Ruben Dominguez will enter the 5000 Meter event with the sixth-best time in the nation at 14:01.15, which is a new school record that he set at the San Francisco State Mike Fanelli Classic back on March 29th.  He also missed winning the conference title in the event this season by less than two seconds.  Dominguez also competed in the 5000 Meter event at Nationals back in 2017 where he placed 14th overall in a time of 14:38.14.

Sophomore Kaelin Moore ran a CCAA-best 52.07 in the 400 Meter Hurdles to capture the individual title at the CCAA Championships back on May 4, which was also the 15th-best time in Division II, paving the way for his second-consecutive Nationals appearance.  He ran a 52.54 on the national stage last year, taking 13th overall.

Freshman Ryan Fields will also compete in the 400 Meter Hurdles alongside Moore after running a 52.08 at the Bryan Clay Invitational back on April 19, going down as the 16th-best time in the country in 2019.

Junior Kyle Lawson will be competing for the national Decathlon championship next weekend, seeded sixth in the event after scoring 7,066 points at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 17-18.

Cal Poly Pomona men have recorded nine individual national championships in program history.  Most recently, Justin Ellerbee won the Pole Vault in 2015.

WOMEN

Freshman Ayana Fields qualified for the 200 Meter Dash with the 17th-best time in Division II this season at 24.11 in the CCAA Championships on May 4.

Senior Casey Monoszlay, the CCAA champion in both the 1500 Meters and the 5000 Meters, will also compete in both events at Nationals.  She ran the ninth-best time in the nation in the 1500 at 4:26.43 in the CCAA Championships on May 4, and recorded the 10th-best time in the 5000 at 16:41.95 at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 18.

Junior Nia Vance will compete in the 100 Meter Hurdles, thanks to running the 16th-best time in the country, a 13.92 this past Friday at the Azusa Pacific Twilight & Multis.

Freshman Ana Tovi secured a spot at Nationals in the Discus when she set a new school record at the adidas/Steve Scott Invitational with a throw of 50.54 meters, which is the 14th-best mark in Division II this spring.

All four women will be competing at Nationals for the first time in their careers.

Cal Poly Pomoma women have posted 11 individual national championships in program history.  The most recent individual titles came in 1998 when Tabreshia Lawrence won the 400 Meter Hurdles and Ruth Moecks won the Triple Jump.
