LA JOLLA, Calif. --
The Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team secured a second place finish in the 2019 CCAA Track & Field Championships after the Broncos 4x400 Relay Team of Keeon Thomas, Ryan Fields, Nicholas Guajardo and Kaelin Moore took first in the final event of the weekend which took place on the campus of UC San Diego in La Jolla.

The Broncos scored 160 points, and their second place standing is the highest for the team since 2013.  Chico State took home the team title for the 15th time out of the last 16 years, scoring 230 points.  CPP edged host UC San Diego, which tallied 158 points.  Stanislaus State came in fourth place with 92 points, followed by Cal State San Marcos in fifth with 90 points.

A total of 13 Broncos earned All-CCAA awards with Top 3 finishes in their respective events, including individual championships from Kaelin Moore in both the 400 Meter Hurdles and as part of the aforementioned 4x400 Relay team.  Earning second place finishes were Eamon Smythe (1500 Meters), Kenneth Hamel (100 Meters), Ryan Fields (400 Meter Hurdles), Kyle Johnston (200 Meters), Kyle Lawson (Javelin) and Ruben Dominguez (5000 Meters).  Third place finishes went to Aaron Guerra-Garcia (Hammer), Hamel (200 Meters), Ryan Peacock (Discus), Fields (110 Meter Hurdles), and Ben Anderson (Triple Jump).

Ryan Fields was also named the CCAA Freshman of the Meet with Top 3 finishes in all three of the events he competed in this week (4x400 Meter Relay, 400 Meter Hurdles and 110 Meter Hurdles).

Moore recorded a huge PR in the 400 Meter Hurdles, clocking in at 52.07, which improves upon his NCAA provisional-qualifying mark and is the ninth-best time in Division II this season.  It edges Fields' provisional mark of 52.08 by one-tenth of a second.

Cal Poly Pomona will have one final opportunity to set or improve upon NCAA automatic- and/or provisional-qualifying marks next Saturday (May 11) at the Oxy Invitational in Los Angeles.
