MIRAMAR, Fla. -- Cal Poly Pomona freshmen Ana Tovi and Ryan Fields competed in the USA Track & Field U20 Outdoor Championships Saturday and Sunday in Miramar, Fla., as both earned Top 10 finishes in their respective events.

Fields, from Los Angeles, Calif., won the first preliminary heat of the Men's 400 Meter Hurdles on Saturday with a time of 52.16, automatically qualifying for Sunday's final, where he took third overall with a personal-best 51.88, coming in behind competitors from NCAA Division I Arizona (James Smith; 50.29) and Washington (Cass Elliot; 51.30).

Fields qualified for the USATF U20 Championships with his season-high time of 52.07, which was the 15th-best time in NCAA Division II this past spring.

Tovi, of Upland, Calif., took home eighth place in the Discus event of the USATF U20 Championships, marking a throw of 48.75 meters.  The toss of 48.75m came on her first of what would be six throws, and the mark would lead the field of 15 competitors after the first round of attempts.  She recorded a 47.09m on her second attempt, and a 43.57m on her fourth attempt, fouling her other three.

Tovi earned a spot in the USATF U20 Championships with her school-record throw of 50.54 meters this past spring, which was the 14th-best in all of NCAA Division II in 2019.
