OFFICIAL CCAA RELEASE
POMONA -- The 2018-19 academic year was not only a successful one in competition with nine of the ten Cal Poly Pomona teams reaching the postseason, but the Broncos also excelled in the classroom. A total of 59 student-athletes from CPP were named to the 2018-19 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Academic Award Team, it was announced by the conference office Tuesday.
Leading the way for the Broncos was women's soccer, which placed 16 student-athletes on the CCAA All-Academic Team. Men's cross country/track and field placed 12 on the All-Academic Team, followed by women's cross country/track and field (9), baseball (9), men's soccer (6), volleyball (5) and women's basketball (2).
Women's soccer led the entire department in 2018-19 with team-wide 3.29 grade point average, followed by women's basketball (3.15) and men's track and field (3.10). Seven of the ten teams at CPP compiled a team GPA of 3.0 or higher in 2018-19 alone.
Collectively as a department for the 2018-19 academic year, the Broncos posted an overall GPA of 3.04 which is mostly attributed to the spring semester in which 64 percent of CPP's student-athletes earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Individually, three Broncos were placed on the CCAA All-Academic Team for the fourth straight year --
Andrea Bosnic (volleyball),
Christian Rodriguez (men's cross country/men's track and field) and
Taylor Otto (women's cross country/women's track and field). Eight other Broncos made their third-career appearance on the CCAA All-Academic list --
Alex Kline (baseball),
Cade Kirkemo (baseball),
Kyle Lawson (men's track and field),
Natalie Di Angelo (women's soccer),
Ori Kenett (men's soccer),
Parker Johnson (men's track and field),
Skyler Gibbons-Stovall (men's soccer) and
Sophia Le (women's track and field).
