POMONA -- Cal Poly Pomona Director of Intercollegiate Athletics
Brian Swanson announced Monday the hiring of
Albert Torres as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. Torres comes to Cal Poly Pomona from nearby Diamond Ranch High School where he served as the head athletic trainer and ROP Sports Medicine instructor for the last two years.
"We are excited that Albert is joining our team," Swanson said. "He is a highly skilled professional that will provide outstanding service to our student-athletes. The continuing opportunity to collaboratively work together in advancing our student-athlete experiences is paramount to our success, and with Albert on board, we are making another step in moving Bronco Athletics forward."
"I am honored to have the opportunity to join Cal Poly Pomona and be a part of an athletics department that strives to be great," said Torres. "As a former student and sports medicine student aide, I was blown away to see the changes that this institution has made throughout the years. The investment clearly shows me that Cal Poly Pomona is serious about bringing success and a positive experience to their Bronco family. I look forward to working with our student-athletes and athletics department to create the best program we can possibly achieve."
At Diamond Ranch, Torres managed the rehabilitation and oversaw the medical care of athletes in 21 sport teams. Additionally, he developed the educational curriculum and taught two levels of sports medicine courses. Torres also served as DRHS Head Soccer Coach for the boys program, where he led the panthers to two league championships.
When not in the athletic training clinic, Torres provides sports medicine services for Kreiswirth Sport Medicine/International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, FC Golden State Development Academy, and US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Academy.
Torres, a Southern California native, received his Master of Science in Athletic Training from Azusa Pacific University. Prior to the Athletic Training Program, Torres graduated from Cal State Fullerton with his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, studying strength and conditioning and sports medicine. While attaining his college education, Torres played soccer for two years at Citrus College.
Torres is a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) from the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer and a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association. Additionally, he is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
