NCAA REGIONAL RANKINGS
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team has been ranked at No. 3 in the first official NCAA Division II Men's Basketball West Region rankings released Wednesday by the NCAA.
Should the Broncos (18-5) maintain their ranking as one of the Top 8 teams in the West Region when the 64-team NCAA tournament field is announced on Sunday, March 8th, CPP will have qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the 16th time in program history, and for the 13th time under the leadership of 20th-year head coach
Greg Kamansky. It would also be the program's third straight NCAA postseason appearance, and the seventh in the last eight seasons.
The announcement of the 2020 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship Tournament will come via a live selection show at NCAA.com on March 8th at 7:30 pm. The NCAA will continue to release updated regional rankings
at NCAA.com every Wednesday afternoon leading up to the selection show in three weeks.
At 24-1 overall, UC San Diego topped the first West Region poll, followed by Azusa Pacific (21-3) at No. 2 ahead of CPP at No. 3. Chico State (18-6) checks in at No. 4, Cal State San Bernardino (19-5) at No. 5, Seattle Pacific (19-5) at No. 6, Point Loma (18-6) at No. 7 and Western Oregon (16-6) at No. 8. On the outside looking in, Western Washington (15-9) comes in at No. 9 and Concordia-Irvine (19-8) at No. 10.
Cal Poly Pomona, which has won five straight games and is ranked at No. 25 this week's NABC Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll, will play its final two road games of the regular season this weekend, beginning with a Thursday night matchup against Cal State Dominguez Hills at the Torodome in Carson. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm. Then, after a Saturday matinee at Cal State LA, the Broncos return to Kellogg Arena the following weekend with games against Cal State East Bay (Thursday the 27th) and Cal State Monterey Bay (Saturday the 29th), both scheduled for 7:30 pm.
