POMONA – Cal Poly Pomona head men's basketball coach
Greg Kamansky has announced the hiring of
Patrick Corrigan as an assistant coach for the program ahead of the upcoming 2021-22 season.
"Coach Corrigan brings great experience at different levels of basketball and will be a great asset for our program," said Kamansky. "We are very fortunate to hire someone with his background and basketball knowledge. I expect he will be another great assistant I have had the pleasure to work with over the years. Patrick is an up and coming great young mind, in addition to being a wonderful person. I am looking forward to working with him."
Corrigan comes to CPP after spending the 2020-2021 year as the Director of College Placement and UA Coach for West Coast Elite, the largest AAU organization and event operator on the west coast. During that year he also served as an assistant coach at Windward High School.
"I want to thank Coach Kamansky and Coach
Damion Hill for the opportunity to be a part of the Cal Poly Pomona program," said Corrigan. "I'm excited to learn what has made their program so successful. Looking forward to helping the players and coaches, as we all strive to be our best every day."
Prior to the 2020-21 season, Corrigan joined the Ferrum College basketball staff as an Associate Head Coach in July 2018. His time at Ferrum as the associate head coach and recruiting & defensive coordinator was highlighted by an improvement from a 5-20 record in 2018 to a 15-12 record in 2020, with a win over nationally ranked #19 Guilford College, and a win in the ODAC tournament.
Before Ferrum, Corrigan was on staff at UNC Charlotte for 5 years. He was an Associate Director of Basketball for his last 3 years, and a program assistant/graduate assistant the 2 years prior. His responsibilities included team travel, budget, compliance paperwork, day-to-day basketball operations, recruiting visits, opponent scouting, and serving as the summer basketball camps co-director. During his time at UNC Charlotte he worked for Alan Major, Ryan Odom, and Mark Price. During his five-year stint, a few of the program's highlights were having 10 players sign professional contracts, and beating #14 Michigan in 2013 & receiving votes for the national Top 25.
A native of Richmond, Virginia, Corrigan was a four-year point guard at Hampden-Sydney College where they won an ODAC regular season championship and went to the NCAA tournament in 2013. He served as team captain his senior year. He graduated from Hampden-Sydney with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Math and Psychology in 2013.
Corrigan takes over the coaching position previously held by Matt Okada, who stepped down in September to accept the Associate Head Coach position at Dominican University of California.
Cal Poly Pomona will open the 2021-22 campaign on Friday, November 12 at home against Seattle Pacific. Tipoff is set for 2:00 pm.
