No. 22 Broncos Ease Past Cal State Dominguez Hills

POMONA – The 22nd-ranked Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team extended its win streak to three matches with a commanding 25-11, 25-13, 25-22 victory over visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday night at Kellogg Arena.

The Broncos improved to 17-3 overall and 10-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with Friday's sweep, while the Toros are now 1-17 overall.

Cal Poly Pomona, which maintained its national ranking this week after a pair of road wins in northern California last weekend, held Cal State Dominguez Hills to a minus-.033 hitting percentage – the first time since August 25, 2018, that a Bronco opponent had more errors than kills. The Toros committed 24 errors while completing just 21 kills in Friday's contest.

The Broncos had strong offensive performances in the first two sets, hitting .355 and .333, respectively, outscoring Cal State Dominguez Hills by a 50-24 count in those two frames combined. The only two ties and lone lead change of the match came in the second set, which saw CSUDH score first and lead by as much as 4-2 before a five-point Cal Poly Pomona run put the hosts in front to stay.

The match was a balanced one offensively for the Broncos, with no players reaching double figures in kills. Sophomores Jazminn Parrish and Daisy Duke shared top honors in that department with eight each, and three Cal Poly Pomona players finished with four apiece. Sophomore setter Kacy Bolding, making her first start of the season, was one of those Broncos with four kills, adding 22 assists and eight digs. Parrish led CPP with nine digs as part of a 43-34 statistical edge in that department.

Both teams were proficient at the service line, with Cal Poly Pomona totaling 11 service aces to nine for Cal State Dominguez Hills. Junior Mackenzie Sullivan had four aces, while Parrish and sophomore Dionne Zhao added three aces apiece.

Darien Mann led the Toros with five kills, while Gabbie Silva led all players with 13 digs in a losing effort.

Cal Poly Pomona will seek revenge against Cal State LA on Saturday evening at Kellogg Arena. The Golden Eagles handed the Broncos their first loss of the season – a four-set defeat on Oct. 1. Match time is set for 5 p.m.
