Cal Poly Pomona put together a valiant comeback attempt in the fourth quarter but couldn't overcome Point Loma Saturday night, falling 68-60.
The Broncos slip to 0-2 while the Sea Lions improve to 2-0.
Monica Todd led the Broncos with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting, while
Jayda Villareal added 12 points (4-for-11).
Point Loma scored the first points of the night and never looked back, building as high as a 19-point lead with 48 seconds left in the third quarter, 49-30.
The Broncos dug deep and cut the deficit to 10 after Todd drove to the basket with six minutes left in the game, 52-42. Ally Cosette Balmy free throw inched the Broncos even closer, 63-58, with just under two minutes to play.
The Broncos tried to foul to get the ball back, but Point Loma took care of its chances at the line to win the game 68-60.
Cal Poly Pomona tips off at home for the first time this year on Wednesday, hosting Biola University at 5:30 p.m.
