NCAA DIVISION II REGIONAL RANKINGS

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team has been ranked at No. 8 in the first official NCAA Division II Volleyball West Region rankings released Wednesday by the NCAA. 

Should the Broncos (18-3) maintain their ranking as one of the Top 8 teams in the West Region when the 64-team NCAA tournament field is announced on Nov. 11th, CPP will have qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the 17th time in program history, and for just the second time since 2008.  In their last NCAA Tournament appearance in 2018, the Broncos were the No. 4 seed, winning a five-set thriller against No. 5 seed Azusa Pacific in the regional quarterfinal before bowing out to the top seed and host Western Washington in the regional semifinal.

The announcement of the 2021 NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship Tournament will come via a live selection show at NCAA.com on Nov. 22nd at 4:30 pm. The NCAA will continue to release updated regional rankings at NCAA.com every Wednesday afternoon leading up to the selection show in three weeks.

Cal State San Bernardino (18-3) emerges as the top ranked team in the first rankings of the season, followed by Western Washington (15-4) at No. 2, Simon Fraser (15-5) at No. 3, and Cal State LA (14-7) at No. 4.  Coming in at No. 5 is Alaska Anchorage (16-8), follwed by Chaminade (21-5) at No. 6, while Central Washington (11-7) is No. 7 ahead of Cal Poly Pomona at No. 8.  Azusa Pacific (13-4) and Biola (14-7) are ranked at No. 9 and No. 10, respectively, and are on the outside of the Top 8 looking in.

Cal Poly Pomona, which is ranked 21st in this week's AVCA Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll and in second place in the CCAA standings at 11-3, will play its final two road matches of the regular season this weekend when it visits Cal State East Bay on Thursday for a 3:00 pm first serve before flying back to SoCal for a Saturday afternoon matchup at Cal State San Marcos, set for 1:00 pm.
