2020-21 CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT® WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD/CROSS COUNTRY TEAM

GREENWOOD, Ind. --
Cal Poly Pomona junior Ayana Fields has been named to the 2020-21 Academic All-District® Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, selected by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for her combined efforts in competition and in the classroom.

Fields, from Los Angeles, Calif., became the first USTFCCCA Indoor Track & Field All-American in CPP history back in 2020 in both the 200 meters and 400 meters after capturing a USTFCCCA Outdoor Track & Field All-America honor in the 200 meter as a freshman in 2019.  She was also named the 2019 CCAA Track & Field Championships Freshman of the Meet that year.  In addition to her success on the track, Fields is also a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic selection and a three-time CCAA All-Academic Team honoree.  She sports a 3.70 grade point average as a Kinesiology major.

Fields becomes just the sixth women's track & field/cross country student-athlete in CPP history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, and the first since 2012-13.  She now advances to the Academic All-America ballot.  The Academic All-America honorees will be announced in mid-August.

To be eligible, nominees must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution, completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and have reached sophomore athletic eligibility. Nominees from track and field and cross country must participate in 50 percent of the competitions that an institution schedules in either cross country, indoor track and field, or outdoor track and field. If an institution schedules multiple competitions on the same weekend (e.g., distance runners at one location, sprinters at a second location, field event athletes at a third), then the entire weekend counts as one competition for 50 percent participation purposes. Since the cross country and outdoor track and field seasons were canceled in 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, career participation and accomplishments were taken into account for nominations. Once a student-athlete is nominated by the Sports Information Director (SID) at his/her current institution, SID's from around the country vote on the All-District® and All-America® ballots.

CoSIDA began the distinguished Academic All-America® program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors.  The Division II and III Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
