POMONA – Cal Poly Pomona head women's basketball coach Danelle Bishop has announced the hiring of Olivia Luu as an assistant coach for the program, completing her coaching staff ahead of the 2021-22 campaign. The announcement comes three weeks after Bishop welcomed Devonte Brewer as the head assistant coach.

"We couldn't be happier to have Olivia join our CPP Bronco Family," said Bishop. "Her recent experience at Gonzaga will bring new insight to our program. She has a niche for connecting with players and building relationships. As a former point guard, she understands the game and has a high basketball IQ. Most importantly she is a person of high integrity and character."

Luu comes to Cal Poly Pomona after serving the last two seasons as a graduate assistant for the Gonzaga women's basketball team in Spokane, Wash. With Luu overseeing several aspects of team operations, the Bulldogs went 51-7 and 33-2 in West Coast Conference play, including a WCC Tournament championship in 2020-21. In May 2021, she earned a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Leadership, boasting a 3.90 grade point average.

"I'm very thankful to join the Cal Poly Pomona family," Luu said. "I'd like to thank Coach Bishop and Director of Athletics Brian Swanson for giving me this opportunity to be a part of the women's basketball program. I cannot wait for the season to start!"

Luu played four years of collegiate basketball at William Jessup University in Rocklin, Calif. A native of Riverbank, Calif., she started at point guard for the Warriors, averaging 7.9 points shooting 35.2 percent from the floor for her career. In her final season at William Jessup, Luu helped the Warriors advance to their first-ever NAIA National Tournament in 2019, averaging 9.3 points and 3.0 assists per game her senior season. She was a three-year captain and part of the So You Want To Be A Coach WBCA Class of 2019. Luu graduated with a degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sport Management and a minor in Bible and Theology.
