No. 23 Broncos Sweep Otters On Senior Day

POMONA – The 23rd-ranked Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team put an exclamation point on the regular season Saturday and celebrated its five seniors with a 3-0 sweep (25-16, 25-16, 25-23) over visiting Cal State Monterey Bay at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.
 
The Broncos (20-5 overall, 14-4 CCAA) will be the No. 3 seed in next weekend's CCAA Volleyball Tournament in San Marcos and will open against No. 6 seed Stanislaus State on Thursday at 3:00 pm in The Sports Center on the campus of Cal State San Marcos.

Samantha Campion led the way with 12 kills and a .379 hitting percentage, adding a double-double with 13 digs. Daisy Duke scored 11 kills and hit at a sizzling .471 clip, and Madison Novak chipped in with 10 kills and three blocks. Avery Percival led the way defensively with 17 digs.
 
The Broncos outhit the Otters, .315 to .148, though CSUMB outblocked CPP, 8.0 to 6.0.
 
CSUMB was led by the 10 kills of Mollin Helfrich.
 
Prior to the victory, Cal Poly Pomona celebrated the careers of five seniors – Mackenzie Sullivan, Dionne Zhao, Kacy Bolding, Ruki Kennedy and Erin McFarland.
 
Bronco Bits 
  • Head coach Traci Dahl moves to 51-26 in her fourth year (third season) at Cal Poly Pomona, including 43-10 the last two seasons.
  • It is the seventh time in program history that the Broncos have opened their season with an 20-5 record or better through the first 25 matches.
  • CPP has swept their opponent 13 times this season, one shy of matching the program record for most 3-0 wins in a season.
  • The Broncos improve to 23-9 all-time against Cal State Monterey Bay having won the last four matches.
  • Daisy Duke has 350 kills this season, a new personal-best for a single-season; it is the second-most in a single-season in program history since 2008 when the scoring format went to its current 25-point format.
  • Daisy Duke's 3.98 kills per set this season is currently the seventh-most in program history across all years.
  • Daisy Duke increases her career total to 827; her career kills per set average of 3.29 is currently the third-most all-time in program history.
  • Kaitlan Tucker has recorded 110 total blocks this season, which is the third-most in program history since 2008 when the scoring format went to its current 25-point format.
  • Ranked in the Top 25 this week at No. 23, CPP is now 281-167 as a nationally-ranked team since 1986.
  • As a program, CPP is now 772-534 all-time, including 297-160 in home matches and 382-299 in conference play since the program's inception in 1980.
  • CPP is now 319-205 in three-set matches all-time.
  • The Broncos will be making their fourth-ever appearance in the CCAA Volleyball Tournament (2015, 2018, 2021); they have gone 4-3 in tournament matches and have reached the tournament final twice (2018, 2021), but have never won.
