OFFICIAL RESULTS
CARMEL, Calif. – Vivian Martinez ran a personal-best 22:48.3 and placed 20th out of 95 runners, leading the Cal Poly Pomona women's cross country team to a fourth place finish at the 2022 CCAA Cross Country Championships Saturday morning at the new Palo Corona Trail in Carmel.
Martinez shaved three-tenths of a second off her previous-best 6K time that she set at the Cougar Challenge back on Sept. 24. At each of the kilometer splits, she was within two places of 20th, getting as high as 18th at the 2K marker.
The finish by Martinez led the Broncos to fourth place with 130 points behind back-to-back champion Stanislaus State, which scored 39 points, led by back-to-back individual titles by senior Kaela Dishion. Dishion ran the course in 20:54.4, crossing the line 17 seconds ahead of the runner-up from Sonoma State, Gianna Bomarito. Finishing behind Stanislaus in the team standings was Chico State with 52 points and Cal State East Bay with 83 points.
Alisa Moradian captured 24th place with a time of 23:06.0 and
Angela Arellano took 27th in a time of 23:13.0.
Samantha Aguilar (23:27.3; 34th place) and
Arissa Hatcher (23:28.0; 35th) rounded out the team scoring for CPP. At the 2K split, Hatcher rose to 13th place in the race, but fell to 35th at the end.
Also finishing for CPP was
Lauren Jauregui (23:45.6; 40th place),
Victoria Escanuelas (24:08.1; 48th),
Svetlana Martin (24:08.6; 49th) and
Julia Butler (25:08.4; 67th).
Cal Poly Pomona will set its sights on the 2022 NCAA Division II West Region Championships in two weeks (Nov. 19) at Amend Park in Billings, Mont. The six-kilometer race will begin at 10:15 am.
Bronco Bits
- Saturday marks the 29th meet for head coach Chris Bradford in his fifth season at CPP (six years overall).
- Vivian Martinez's time of 22:48.3 ties for the 50th best 6K time for the Broncos at the CCAA Championships since 1999.
- Samantha Aguilar has now run in 21 career meets, which is tied for the 15th-most in program history; she remains at 14th all-time in career winning percentage (71.5 percent).
- This is the 23rd time since 1987 that Cal Poly Pomona has finished in the Top 4 of the CCAA Championships; the highest ever finish at the conference meet was second and it has happened four times (2010, 2011, 2014, 2016).
