POMONA -- Cal Poly Pomona sophomore
Johnny Pappas has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Baseball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 7-13, it was announced by the conference office Monday.
Pappas batted .467 with a .867 slugging percentage and .600 on-base percentage to lead the Broncos to a four-game series split against Montana State Billings.
The catcher/outfielder from Chino Hills went 7-for-15 with six doubles, drove in four runs, scored six times and drew five walks as the top offensive player for CPP.
Pappas, the Broncos' lead-off hitter, started the series with a 3-for-4, two-double game in Thursday's loss to open the series. Friday afternoon, in the second game of the weekend series, he again went 3-for-4, this time with three doubles and drove in three runs as Pomona routed MSUB, 15-8. Pappas recovered from a tough game in Saturday's game one of the twinbill to finish 1-for-3 with another double and RBIÂ in the series finale 15-1 win.
Defensively, Pappas was behind the dish for three of the four games and did not commit an error with 22 putouts and an assist. He played left field in game one on Saturday.Â
This is the first CCAA Player of the Week award for the Broncos since 2018.
Cal Poly Pomona (5-3) is off until next Tuesday when they host Biola to conclude a nine-game homestand before traveling to Cal State San Bernardino to open CCAA play.
