PITTSBURG, Kansas -- Sophomore
Ayana Fields will compete for two individual national championships on Saturday after a pair of runner-up finishes in the 400m and the 200m preliminary races on day one of the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday in Pittsburg, Kansas.
In the 400m prelim, Fields won her heat with a time of 54.62 and took second overall as the Top 8 advances to Saturday's final at 4:10 pm Pacific Time (6:10 pm Central).
In the 200m prelim an hour later, she also won the heat, crossing the line in 24.10, eventually finishing second overall to also advance to Saturday's final race, which is scheduled for 4:55 pm Pacific Time (6:55 pm Central).
Also on Saturday, teammate
Jade De Souza will be competing for an individual national title in the Triple Jump, as that event commences at 1:05 pm Pacific Time (3:05 pm Central).
