POMONA -- Cal Poly Pomona junior Gabriel Zapata has been selected the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the week of Mar. 21-27, it was announced by the conference office Tuesday.

Zapata won the decathlon at the UC Riverside Spring Classic this past Saturday with 6,355 points. That is the fifth-best mark in NCAA Divsion II this season and it leads the CCAA by almost 500 points.

The Arvin, Calif., native won four of the 10 events while setting lifetime bests in seven. He won the 100m with a time of 11.03 and the 400m with a time of 49.22. He also added victories in the 110m hurdles (14.75) and the high jump (5-11.25/1.81m).
