LA JOLLA, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona took on a heavily competitive field at the Triton Invitational, hosted by UC San Diego, and still saw lots of improvement.
The Bronco 4x100 relay team of
Jaelyn Thomas,
Kelsey Ehinlaiye,
Angelina Camello and
Ayana Fields won the event with a time of 46.88 seconds, beating out NCAA Division I opponents UCSD and UNLV.
Fields finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.48 seconds, which is a new personal-best time, betters her NCAA Division II provisional mark, and inches her closer to the CPP record (11.24 seconds set by Chi Cheng in 1971). Fields was the top collegiate performer, beating out an opponent from USC by .03 seconds. Camello took seventh (12.22 seconds) and Thomas was right on her tail (12.29 seconds).
Imani Williams had a solid performance with a runner-up finish in the long jump, posting a mark of 5.64 meters on her first attempt. Ehinlaiye took sixth with a jump of 5.26 meters.
Arissa Hatcher took third in the 800-meter run, posting a time of 2:12.35. It was not only a personal best but also puts her up to No. 8 on the CPP all-time list and is just .11 seconds off an NCAA Division II provisional mark.
Skyler Madrid came in 12
th (2:21.01) and
Alisa Moradian followed in 17
th (2:24.70).
Jade DeSouza finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 12.04 meters on her second attempt, while
Natalie Lin took sixth in 11.15 meters.
Sarah Lindenthal took fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.57 meters on her second attempt.
Ana Tovi kicked off the two-day meet on Friday with a top-five finish in the discus, finishing with a throw of 46.69 meters.
Elisha Salazar crossed the finish line sixth in the 400-meter run with a time of 56.70 seconds, winning her heat by almost a full second, and now sits in the top-10 all-time record book.
Savannah Baca finished in the top-10 of the pole vault after she cleared 3.20 meters on her first attempt at the height to sit in a tie for eighth place.
Skyy Vang finished in 11
th after clearing the height on her second attempt.
Avia Bateman and
Keiana Turner were neck-and-neck in the hammer throw, with Bateman just edging out her teammate. The junior posted a personal-best throw of 47.79 meters (fifth all-time at CPP) to take 11
th, while Turner followed in 47.56 meters. Tovi threw 41.53 meters to take 16
th.
Taina Livai grabbed 10
th place in the javelin with a throw of 34.19 meters.
Demisha Price took eighth in the shot put with a personal-best 13.64-meter heave, moving her up to No. 8 on the Broncos' all-time list. Tovi followed in 13.45 meters to finish in the top-10.
In a stacked 100-meter hurdle event, Citlalli Aguiano crossed the finish line second in her heat with a time of 14.91 seconds, followed closely by DeSouza (14.96 seconds).
Susie Fowler wasn't far behind either, finishing in 15.14 seconds.
Aguiano also took seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.91 and
Samantha Aguilar clocked in at 5:05.59 in the 1500-meter race.
The Broncos look to keep improving as they head to the Bryan Clay Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays next week, April 13-16.
