Broncos Compete at Three Different Meets

Cal Poly Pomona competed at three different difficult events on the week.
 
At the Mt. SAC Relays, Ryan Fields had a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdle prelims behind NCAA Division I foe. He finished in 51.47 seconds – just .22 seconds off his personal and CPP record of 51.25 seconds – while Jaelen Craft posted a time of 54.52 seconds and Kaelin Moore clocked in at 55.05 seconds.
 
Fields also took 11th with his fastest time yet in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 13.92 seconds. It shaved .14 seconds off his previous best as Fields became just the second Bronco to finish in less than 14 seconds and puts him third in NCAA Division II. Alessio Sommacal clocked in at 14.25 – also a personal best – and Nnamdi Onwaeze finished in 14.35 seconds.
 
Alejandro Sandoval-Guzman posted a throw of 15.49 meters in the shot put, followed by Gerardo Flores' mark of 14.49 meters.
 
The Bronco 4x400 relay team of Camden Patterson, Jalen Jenkins, Kaelin Moore and Fields posted a time of 3:14.35, just .30 seconds off an NCAA DII provisional mark. The 4x100 team of Bryce Bushnell, Joshua Johnson, Sommacal and Deandre Smith clocked in at 41.46 seconds to take seventh.
 
Leandro Candray had the best finish at the Bryan Clay Invitational, taking third in the 5K with a time of 14:29.29. It's just four seconds off a provisional mark.
 
In the 3K steeplechase at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Nicholas Albro posted a time of 9:28.19. Kristian Kimberlin finished the 800-meter run in 1:53.98.
 
Christian Coley clocked in at 3:56.44 in the 1500-meter race and Vincent Sarino finished in 4:00.56.
 
At the Pacific Coast Invitational, Patterson had a strong showing in the 400-meter dash, taking third in 48.65 seconds. Kevin Mlynek finished in 49.95 seconds.
 
Four Broncos finished one right after the other in the shot put, led by Aaron May's 14.34-meter throw. Alex Problosky followed in 14.32 meters, while Dominique Navarrette posted a heave of 14.09 meters and Thomas Tuff rounded out the quartet at 13.77 meters.
 
In a tough field, May threw 47.87 meters in the discus. Navarrette followed with a throw of 46.85 meters.
 
Johnson clocked in at 10.83 seconds in the 100-meter dash, followed by Bushnell in 10.89 seconds. Bushnell also finished the 200-meter dash in 22.15 seconds.
 
Derek Porter posted a time of 15.54 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles to place in the top-10.
 
Smith and Donovan Robinson were neck-and-neck in the long jump as Smith cleared 6.49 meters and Robinson posted a mark of 6.42 meters.
 
Kailen Smith finished in the top-10 of the high jump, clearing 2.01 meters on his second attempt. Isaiah Galloway grabbed a 13.02-meter mark in the triple jump.
 
Aaron Rodriguez cleared 4.46 meters in the pole vault, while Gabriel Zapata posted a 3.41-meter mark.
 
The Broncos wrap up the regular-season next week at the Steve Scott Invitational, hosted by UC Irvine.
