POMONA -- Cal Poly Pomona's
Alejandro Sandoval Guzman turned a busy Saturday afternoon into an award winning one as he's been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the week of Apr. 25-May 1, it was announced Tuesday.
Sandoval Guzman competed in three events at UC Irvine's Steve Scott Invitational, coming away with three top 20 finishes. Competing against Division I athletes, the senior from Fontana was eighth in the shot put (15.77m), 12th in the discus (48.65m) and 16th in the hammer throw (40.89m).
The shot put and discus throws would be among some of the top marks in the CCAA this season.
Sandoval Guzman has the conference's top shot put distance this season at 15.89m and owns the league's third-best discus distance at 49.38m.
This is Sandoval Guzman's first-career CCAA weekly award, and it's the third for the Broncos this season.
The Broncos will join the rest of the conference at the CCAA Track & Field Championships, May 5-7, at San Francisco State.
