POMONA --
Five Cal Poly Pomona baseball student-athletes earned All-West Region honors this season, including Ryon Knowles and Will Rudy, who were both unanimous First Team selections across the three All-Region Teams -- the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-West Region Team, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NBCWA) All-West Region Team and the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA) All-West Region Team.

Joining Knowles and Rudy were Ricky Nuñez (ABCA First Team and NCBWA Second Team), Johnny Pappas (ABCA Second Team and NCBWA Honorable Mention) and Cesar Lopez (D2 CCA Second Team).

Rudy pitched at the top of Cal Poly Pomona's rotation all season, and he helped lead the Broncos to a second-place finish in the CCAA, a CCAA Tournament title and a NCAA West Region appearance. The freshman right-hander, who was also named the CCAA's Most Valuable Pitcher this season, was third in the CCAA in earned run average (3.10), and he led the league in wins (8) and strikeouts (96), which were the ninth-most in a single-season in program history. Opponents hit just .228 off Rudy, and he walked only 15 batters in 87.0 innings. Rudy went at least six innings in 12 of his 13 starts, and the Broncos won every one of those games. He had two starts with 12 strikeouts, including a one-hit shutout of Sonoma State.

Knowles was the Broncos' second-leading hitter with a .368 batting average, and led the team in slugging percentage (.562), on-base percentage (.480), runs (57), hits (74), home runs (6) and total bases (113). He boasted the longest hitting streak on the team this season, a 22-game streak, and he was a two-time CCAA Player of the Week.

Nuñez was the third-leading hitter for CPP this season at .361, but was tied for the team lead in hits with 74, and led CPP with 51 RBI. He also led the team with multi-hit games (26) and multiple-RBI games (17).

Pappas hit .308 for the Broncos this season, tying for the team lead with three triples, 37 walks and 14 hit by pitches, and was second on the team in runs scored (47) and doubles (18).

Cesar Lopez led the Broncos with a .371 batting average and led the CCAA in doubles with 20.  He sported a team-best 30-game reached base streak during the course of the season.

Cal Poly Pomona finished the season with a 35-19 overall record and a 27-12 mark in conference play, good for second-place. The Broncos went on to win the CCAA Tournament for the second straight season and made their seventh appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the last 10 seasons.
