2022 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-America Team
POMONA -- Cal Poly Pomona freshman pitcher
Will Rudy has been named to the 2022 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-America Third Team, it was announced at the Opening Banquet of the NCAA Div. II College World Series last Friday night in Cary, North Carolina.
Rudy pitched at the top of Cal Poly Pomona's rotation all season, and he helped lead the Broncos to a second-place finish in the CCAA, a CCAA Tournament title and a NCAA West Region appearance. The freshman right-hander, who was also named the CCAA's Most Valuable Pitcher this season, was third in the CCAA in earned run average (3.10), and he led the league in wins (8) and strikeouts (96), which were the ninth-most in a single-season in program history. Opponents hit just .228 off Rudy, and he walked only 15 batters in 87.0 innings. Rudy went at least six innings in 12 of his 13 starts, and the Broncos won every one of those games. He had two starts with 12 strikeouts, including a one-hit shutout of Sonoma State.
Rudy becomes the first Bronco to earn ABCA All-America honors since 2016, and the 34th CPP baseball student-athlete in the 62-year history of the program.
ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. II All-Region First Team selections, which were announced last Wednesday, were nominated for All-America honors. In all divisions, the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Teams will be announced on Wednesday, June 22, followed by the ABCA National Pitchers and Position Players of the Year on Monday, June 27.
