REDLANDS, Calif. – Lauren Jauregui earned the highest overall finish of her career, placing sixth out of 70 runners, to lead the Cal Poly Pomona women's cross country team to a second place finish at the Redlands Invitational Saturday morning in Redlands.
Jauregui was the top CPP finisher for the first time in six collegiate races, traversing the 4,500-meter course in 17:07.68. She crossed the line ahead of
Samantha Aguilar, who took seventh overall with a time of 17:17.54.
Svetlana Martin (17:46.68) placed 11th overall while
Arissa Hatcher (17:53.28),
Victoria Escanuelas (17:53.76) and
Vivian Martinez (17:54.84) took 13th through 15th, respectively.
Julia Butler (17:57.68) captured a 17th place stanza,
Angela Arellano (18:20.85) came in 24th, and
Alisa Moradian (18:24.70) and
Bridget Edwards (18:31.76) came in 26th and 27th places, respectively.
As a team, the Broncos scored 49 points for runner-up honors behind team champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, which tallied a perfect 15 points as all five of its runners finished in the Top 5.
Cal Poly Pomona will return to action in three weeks on Sept. 24 at the Cougar Challenge, hosted by Cal State San Marcos. The six-kilometer race will begin at 9:15 am.

Chris Bradford in his fifth season at CPP (six years overall) … This is Bradford's eighth meet placing in the Top 2 of the team standings … CPP has now run in the Redlands Invitational five times in program history, winning it on three occasions (2005, 2007 and 2018) …
Lauren Jauregui's 4,500-meter time of 17:07.68 is the fourth-fastest time in CPP women's cross country history for courses of the same length … CPP has only raced one other time in history on September 3rd, and the Broncos placed 7th out of 24 teams at the Cal State Fullerton Opener back in 2005.
