Broncos Fall To Golden Eagles At Home Thursday

POMONA – Breanne Ha and Sydney Fedinec each scored a team-high 11 points, combining for six 3-pointers on the night, but the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team went cold late in the first half and couldn't recover in falling 67-56 to visiting Cal State LA Thursday night at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.

The Broncos fall to 8-3 overall and 5-2 in CCAA action. The Golden Eagles rise to 7-5 (4-3 CCAA).

Fedinec came off the bench and gave the Broncos a spark early, hitting a pair of three-pointers that gave CPP its largest lead of the night, 14-8, with 2:32 to go in the first period. Reina Sausedo connected on one of two free throws late in the quarter to give the hosts another six-point lead at 16-10, but from then on, the Golden Eagles went on a 26-6 run for the next 11 minutes, including 15 unanswered points to end the half to lead 35-21 at the half.

The CPP deficit was in double-digits for most of the second half, but it got as close as seven points on several occasions in the fourth quarter, the last coming at the 5:26 mark when Ally Bates hit a turnaround jumper to make it 54-47 in favor of CSULA. However, the Golden Eagles went on a 7-0 run late, en route to the eventual 11-point triumph over the Broncos.

Fedinec's 11 points were a season high as she was 4 of 10 from the floor, including 3 of 8 from three-point range. Ha scored her 11 points on 4 of 8 shooting (3 of 6 from the arc). The Broncos were held to just 31.0 percent shooting (18 of 58) while the Golden Eagles hit on 45.3 percent of their shots (24 of 53).

Nicole Flennaugh led CSULA with 14 points, playing all 40 minutes of the contest.

Cal Poly Pomona will look to regroup Saturday when it welcomes 16th-ranked Cal State San Marcos to Kellogg Arena for a 1:00 pm tipoff.
