Defense Dominates in Victory Over Biola

POMONA, Calif. – The Bronco defense put on a clinic in the opening quarter of Tuesday's win over Biola, holding the Eagles to just four points in the first 10 minutes of play. Leading by a score of 9-4 just a few minutes into the game, CPP went on an impressive 16-point unanswered run to take a commanding 25-4 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Opening the second quarter, a layup by freshman Sydney Nelson and a three from Sydney Fedinec put the Broncos up 30-4, extending that point streak to 20 consecutive without a made basket by the Eagles. Biola would score just seven points in the second quarter, totaling 11 points in the entire first half. As a result of the strong defense, CPP was able to score 18 points off turnovers in the first half alone, and 31 points off turnovers in the game.

Coming out of half, the Bronco defense continued to impress, allowing just 15 points in the third quarter and 13 points in the final quarter. The 39 total points allowed by the Bronco defense is the fewest in a game since November 26th of last year, where they surrendered just 38 points to Cal State San Bernardino in their CCAA opener. Tuesday night was the 10th game in Danelle Bishop's 14-year tenure as head coach that the Broncos have held opponents to under 40 points.

Biola shooters were just 13-for-57 (.228) from the floor and 7-for-42 (.167) beyond the arc. Meanwhile, the Broncos shot 45 percent from the field and 31 percent from three-point range.

Breanne Ha turned in an impressive performance, scoring 17 points while hitting four treys from deep. Ha now ranks second in the conference with 14 treys on the season. She also ranks sixth in three-point percentage, currently shooting 43 percent on the season.

Freshman Sydney Nelson and sophomore Andrea Stajic also reached double figures against the Eagles, both also leading the team with six and nine rebounds, respectively. Jeannette Fine also had six boards of her own, while scoring seven points and leading the team with three steals.

With the 71-39 win, CPP improves to 3-1 to open the season - their only loss coming against nationally-ranked Azusa Pacific.
